Root n Fruit Community Garden

Community Commission

Root n fruit Community garden was commissioned by Appetite Stoke

The project was to build a community shelter and art project to encourage people to use the facilities at the garden and share in the produce. We worked with local schools to make ceramic butterflies and bugs and the Home Education group, ‘Growing wild’ came and helped with lots of labour digging and planting and doing all kinds of useful things.

Many people from the community came to help, building firms and people that were visiting from overseas, all sorts of people came and joined in weaving willows and making ceramic pots, digging and planting.

We had a brilliant time and were sad to see the end after so much good work. We left the garden with a living willow shelter called Seven pillars of wisdom. A love shaped gate, willow tunnels to grow peas over and lots of wooden raised beds with a big table to congregate around.

The project has gone on to become stronger still and now host classes and community gardening workshops every week. Thanks to all the team at Root n fruit and everyone that came and helped to build this brilliant community resource.
